Tight Spot
TIGHT SPOT
SPOTLIGHT
Have there ever been moments in your life where it feels like all you can do is shake your head and say, “Dang, we’re in a tight spot”? (any “O Brother Where Art Thou” fans out there??) ...And no, we aren’t talking about those jeans that haven’t fit since pre-pandemic. Certain situations are tricky and leave us feeling uncomfortable. Fears creep in like, “Am I going to be able to pay all the bills this month?” or “How am I gonna make it through the week?” You’re feeling exhausted and emotionally spent.
Paul had plenty of moments like this. Yet, he wrote to the Philippians and said, “I’ve learned in whatever situation I am in to be content.” Your first instinct might be to say, “Sure, easy for you to say, Paul!” But he was an Apostle who was beaten and hauled off to jail because of his ministry. And then what did he do? He sang praises. He kept the faith. We must depend on Christ, drawing life and strength from him. God has promised that no matter where we are or what we are going through, He will never leave us or forsake us. He’s with us in the Tight Spot!.

BLINDSPOTS
Let’s reprogram our minds from some distorted perspectives we’ve latched onto over the years.
- Do you put anyone on a pedestal of comparison by thinking their life is perfect? Pastors, people on social media, celebrities? The truth is, everyone goes through Tight Spots, even if you don’t get to witness them.
- Have you ever thought that after accepting Christ you would have zero or at least less struggles? Remember, even Jesus was tempted in the wilderness. Sometimes things don’t feel good, but work for our good!
- When things start taking a turn for the worse, what is an action step you can adopt to process and respond instead of react?
