Soft Spot
SOFT SPOT
SPOTLIGHT
We’ve all got a Soft Spot or two. A feeling of tenderness toward someone or some cause — a heart tug. Like when you look endearingly at your newborn baby even after a sleepless night. Or bring your elderly mother her favorite flowers just because. For some it’s the urge to give all the furry friends at the animal shelter a good home.
Jesus has a Soft Spot too…you. He’s even got proof: self-sacrifice, salvation, resurrection, healing, forgiveness. All free gifts for you, His beloved! He wants the best for you. He’s a good father.
Even if your Soft Spots have grown hard over the years and it’s difficult to see the greener pastures, He wants to help you relearn how to live freely and lightly.
LOOK IT UP
“But the Lord says, “Can a woman forget her baby? Can she forget the child who came from her body? Even if she can forget her children, I cannot forget you. I drew a picture of you on my hand. You are always before my eyes.”
Isaiah 49:15-16 (ERV)
“If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath.”
Psalm 34:18 (MSG)
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me — watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)

BLINDSPOTS
Let’s reprogram our minds from some distorted perspectives we’ve latched onto over the years.
- Are there ways you feel undeserving or unworthy of such doting attention?
- Do you have a parent/caretaker emotional wound that prevents you from fully embracing the love of Christ?
- How can you look at others with tenderness, even when their perspective is different from yours?
PUT IT INTO ACTION
BODY
Really lean into the self-care and emphasize
tenderness toward yourself. Move with love
and intention while brushing your hair, applying lotion, washing your face, etc.
MIND
Write a “love letter” to your younger self. Jot down all the things you were good at or enjoyed doing that maybe you’ve stopped for fear of judgment from others. Remind yourself how brave you were for going through all life has thrown at you up until now.
SPIRIT
Spend a few minutes praying and thanking God for how He sees you. Ask Him to remove your blindspots where you can’t see the treasure that you are.
