SWEET SPOT

SPOTLIGHT

The sweet spot. It’s where everything is falling in place versus falling apart. You’re comfortable here and feel safe. It’s a good thing to be in the Sweet Spot.

That is... until you’re not. And you find yourself crying in the fetal position with your tears dripping into your fave flavor of Ben & Jerry’s. Then, it’s not so great. But that’s part of life. The key is in how we respond and who we take comfort from when things aren’t so sweet anymore.

So, when life comes at you faster than you expect and things start becoming more bitter than sweet, who do you turn to for comfort? And no, Ben & Jerry don’t count. Most of us have someone we immediately go to when something good or bad happens in our lives. A comfortable person we can share anything with or vent to about life. Or you withdraw and try to handle the pressures of life on your own.

Either way, it’s dangerous to make anyone the source of any kind of peace or joy. Especially when we know who our source truly is.

LOOK IT UP

“All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we

go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us. We have plenty of hard times that come from following the Messiah, but no more so than the good times of his healing comfort—we get a full measure of that, too.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-5 (MSG)

“I will talk to the Father, and he’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth. The godless world can’t take him in because it doesn’t have eyes to see him, doesn’t know what to look for. But you know him already because he has been staying with you, and will even be in you!"
John 14:16-17 (MSG)

BLINDSPOTS

Let’s reprogram our minds from some distorted perspectives we’ve latched onto over the years.

  • When you struggle with fear, anxiety, pain, depression, stress or worry, who’s the first person you talk to? Do they replace talking to God in these moments? Be honest with yourself.
  • What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done? Were you brave enough to share (your spots) with a trusted friend or family member? Did it make you feel better or worse? And at what point did you invite God in on the conversation? Or did you completely forget that part?

PUT IT INTO ACTION

BODY
Take a walk and talk to God about a situation in your life that’s not so sweet.

MIND
Start your day by reflecting and jotting down all the sweet spots in your life right now.

SPIRIT
